People searching for facebook ads for drinks clubs UK should know UK drinks clubs and craft spirits brands on Meta mostly run a gift-box unboxing Reel, a tasting-kit flat-lay static, gifting and advent creative, a distillery story, a first-box offer card and a cocktail how-to. Each needs its CAP Code section 18 check, and ads target 18+. A catalogue, not a ranking.
Creativy (creativy.co.uk) is a UK Meta ad creative agency for DTC brands (CREATIVY LIMITED, Companies House 15501604). It is NOT Creatify.ai, creativy.co.id or creativy.in. We have no drinks or alcohol case.
This guide covers UK (18+) alcohol advertising on Meta. Meta's default minimum of 18 applies where a country isn't listed, and the UK isn't listed. The US (21+) and Sweden (25+) are, per Meta's alcohol policy.
Every Ad Library card below is a public GB example, not a Creativy client (captured 28 September 2026). Non-alcoholic food and drink: see our UK food & beverage formats post.
- Six Meta formats UK drinks clubs run in 2026: a catalogue, not a ranking, each with its CAP Code section 18 check.
- The ASA monitors alcohol ads with AI and flags UGC with faces as the highest-risk type (23 Jul 2026).
- UGC and studio do different jobs. Brief a portfolio by funnel, never "UGC wins."
Ad Library examples are public GB pattern sources, not Creativy clients or measured results. Slot 02 FLAG: borrow the layout only; the box slogans and 'rare' odds framing aren't recommended (CAP 18). Slot 06 FLAG: the recipe pattern only; check couple/lifestyle styling against CAP 18.5. Off-geo: DISCUS, RANCH2O (US); ABAC, Liquor Loot, Whisky Loot (AU). Tidal Rum is Jersey. No Creativy drinks case. Not legal advice.
What makes drinks-club ads different
Drinks clubs live on Meta. Jon Hulme, co-founder of Craft Gin Club (now The Curious Drinker), told Daasity: "As a business, we're 90% reliant on Meta as an advertising platform. It's where most of our acquisition comes from." (Vendor case study, undated, accessed 28 Sep 2026.)
A subscription, not a bottle. Daasity says the brand can show tailored ads to "subscribers who eagerly await their next gin selection, shoppers looking for one-time purchases or gifts, customers who haven't made a purchase in a while." Three briefs.
Craft Gin Club is now The Curious Drinker. The Spirits Business (29 May 2026): "UK-based Craft Gin Club has rebranded to The Curious Drinker, expanding its subscription service to other spirits."
1. Gift-box unboxing Reel (video)
Beat structure — Box on the table → unwrap → lid off → contents lay-out → shop CTA: gift box on the table (option: open from a letterbox drop instead), tissue unwrap with hands only, lid off with the drinks revealed, cans, bottles or mixers laid out, then a gift / first-box CTA.
- Box on the table.
Hands-only unwrap.
- Contents lay-out.
Then gift CTA.
Example (filmable): 9:16. Hands tear the tissue, set the box on a table, lift the lid and line up the drinks. The GB card, NIO Cocktails, does it with boxed ready-to-drink cocktails. Funnel: TOF. Question to test: hands-only vs face-to-camera open.
CAP 18 check: 18.16 (anyone drinking or central must not be or seem under 25) and 18.15 (18+ audience). Hands-first, or age-verified 25+ creators.
2. Tasting-kit flat-lay static (static)
Beat structure — The kit in one frame → minis up front → box behind → one line → shop CTA: the whole kit in one frame, miniatures in front with caps visible, box or boxes stacked behind, one line on what's in it with factual ABV, then a tasting box / subscribe CTA.
- Kit in one frame.
Minis up front.
- One line.
Factual ABV, then CTA.
Example (still): 4:5 still, miniatures fanned in front of their box on a table, soft side light, one headline. Test versions as separate statics (the GB card, Hackstons' Dram5 blind box, runs five). Funnel: MOF. Question to test: minis-only vs minis-plus-box frame.
CAP 18 check: 18.9 (ABV factual, no undue emphasis on strength) and 18.14 (no youth-culture styling). Borrow the flat-lay, not the card's box slogans ("Friends don't let friends drink alone") or odds-style "rare" framing.
3. Gifting calendar (advent / Christmas) (static / carousel)
Beat structure — Occasion → the gift → what's inside → how it's given → gift CTA: the occasion, the gift (calendar or membership), a peek inside, how it arrives, then a gift / advent / waitlist CTA.
- Occasion.
Frames the gift.
- What's inside.
Then gift CTA.
Example (still): 4:5 still, calendar front-on, a few doors open. The GB card, MOTH, states the offer plainly: "24 COCKTAILS FOR £79". The Curious Drinker sells Gin, Rum, and Gin & Rum advent calendars plus gift membership. Funnel: TOF–MOF, seasonal. Question to test: gift-giver vs recipient-reaction framing.
Assisted (Jun–Dec 2023, UK distillery): "Theming campaigns around special celebrations, particularly Father's Day, demonstrated noteworthy success." CAP 18 check: 18.3 (the drink isn't what makes the celebration a success), 18.2 (no confidence or popularity payoff), 18.10 (24 doors must not imply excess).
4. Producer / distillery story (video)
Beat structure — Place → maker → process → the bottle → discover CTA: the place, the maker on camera, the process (botanicals, still), the bottle, then a soft discover CTA.
- Place and maker.
Founder on camera.
- Process to bottle.
Soft discover CTA.
Example (filmable): 9:16. Founder to camera in a field explaining the club, then cutaways to the still and bottle. The GB card, Witchmark Distillery, is exactly this, for an English whisky club. Funnel: TOF (brand). Question to test: distiller-led vs landscape-led open.
CAP 18 check: 18.5 (no seduction or attractiveness), 18.2 (no confidence or popularity claims), 18.16 (on-screen drinkers 25+).
5. First-box offer card (static offer)
Beat structure — Offer headline → box contents → terms → trust → join CTA: the offer is the headline, what's in the box, terms (price after, frequency, cancel), a trust line, then a join CTA.
- Offer headline.
Box contents beneath.
- Terms and trust.
Then join CTA.
Example (still): 4:5, offer as the headline ("Over 50% off your first box" on the GB card, The Curious Drinker, with "Formerly Craft Gin Club" in the link line), terms legible. Funnel: BOF / retargeting. Question to test: price-led vs contents-led card.
CAP 18 check: 18.10 (the promotion must not encourage excess), 18.15 (18+ audience), 18.14 (no youth styling). Subscription terms stated.
6. Cocktail / RTD how-to (video)
Beat structure — Finished drink → ingredients → build → serve → box CTA: the finished drink, the ingredients, the build (or can to glass), one measured serve, then a cocktail box / RTD pack CTA.
- Finished drink.
Then ingredients.
- Build and serve.
Measures in copy.
Example (filmable): 9:16, 15–30s, hands-only: measure, stir, garnish, slide one glass forward. Put the measures in the copy, as the GB card, Campari, does (30ml, 30ml, 30ml, 5ml). Borrow the recipe pattern; check any couple or lifestyle styling against 18.5. Treat recipe ads as alcohol ads: target 18+ and follow CAP 18.
CAP 18 check: 18.14 (no youth-culture music, memes or juvenile behaviour), 18.3 (no "makes the party" payoff), 18.16 (presenters 25+), 18.19 for 0% variants (prominent ABV). Funnel: MOF. Question to test: presenter-led vs hands-only recipe.
| Format | Hook → offer | CAP 18 check | Funnel stage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gift-box unboxing Reel | The reveal → gift / first box | 18.16 (no one under, or seeming under, 25); 18.15 (18+ audience) | TOF |
| Tasting-kit flat-lay static | Discovery / learn to taste → tasting box / subscription | 18.9 (factual ABV, no undue emphasis); 18.14 (no youth appeal) | MOF |
| Gifting calendar (advent / Christmas) | The occasion / the gift → gift membership / advent bundle | 18.3 (not key to social success); 18.2; 18.10 (no excess) | TOF–MOF (seasonal) |
| Producer / distillery story | Provenance / who made it → soft join / none | 18.5 (no seduction or attractiveness); 18.2; 18.16 | TOF (brand) |
| First-box offer card | Value / risk reversal → first-box or join discount | 18.10 (promotion not encouraging excess); 18.15; 18.14 | BOF / retargeting |
| Cocktail / RTD how-to | Bar-quality at home → cocktail box / RTD pack | 18.14; 18.3; 18.16; 18.19 for 0% variants | MOF |
The UK rules, in their own words
Checked 28 September 2026. Creative context, not legal advice. Compiled by Creativy from brand websites, UK agency case studies and ASA/CAP texts; no ROAS, CPA or CPM data or client results.
CAP Code section 18 (ASA). 18.2: "Marketing communications must not claim or imply that alcohol can enhance confidence or popularity." 18.3: "Marketing communications must not imply that drinking alcohol is a key component of the success of a personal relationship or social event. The consumption of alcohol may be portrayed as sociable or thirst-quenching."
18.5: "Marketing communications must neither link alcohol with seduction, sexual activity or sexual success nor imply that alcohol can enhance attractiveness." 18.15: "Marketing communications must not be directed at people under 18 through the selection of media or the context in which they appear. No medium should be used to advertise alcoholic drinks if more than 25% of its audience is under 18 years of age."
18.14: "Marketing communications must not be likely to appeal particularly to people under 18, especially by reflecting or being associated with youth culture. They should not feature or portray real or fictitious characters who are likely to appeal particularly to people under 18 in a way that might encourage the young to drink. People shown drinking or playing a significant role (see rule 18.16) should not be shown behaving in an adolescent or juvenile manner."
18.16: "People shown drinking or playing a significant role must neither be nor seem to be under 25. People under 25 may be shown in marketing communications, for example, in the context of family celebrations, but must be obviously not drinking."
How the ASA enforces it on Meta
Jägermeister, 10 September 2025. The ASA upheld a case against two paid Facebook and Instagram ads found by its AI-based Active Ad Monitoring. Captions included "Jägermeister, serving the best night of your life." "The ads breached CAP Code (Edition 12) rules 18.1 and 18.3 (Alcohol)."
Under-25s snapshot, 23 July 2026. The ASA found: "2.5% of alcohol ads were red and 10.8% were amber. The highest risk ad types were organic (e.g. posts) and influencer ads, particularly where advertisers shared user-generated content featuring people's faces." Percentages are of ads containing faces.
Reusing creative on TV or VOD? The broadcast rules (BCAP section 19) apply too.
UGC or studio? A portfolio by funnel
No public UK evidence says one wins. Agencies describe mixing; the ASA flags UGC faces as the top compliance risk. Driven by Digital says its Tidal Rum ads (Jersey, a Crown Dependency, not UK) mixed "brand-led and direct-response content." Journey Further began MOTH's Meta work with "an account restructure which embodied a full funnel approach."
Brief by job. TOF: distillery story, hands-first unboxing, seasonal gifting. MOF: tasting-kit static, cocktail how-to, gift membership. BOF and retention: first-box offer cards, members' pricing, lapsed-member creative (the Daasity segments). Age-check every clip (18.16).
Pour & Sip, The Dram Team and Flaviar (in the brands table) had no live GB ads when we checked (28 September 2026).
Off-geo: US guidance (DISCUS, RANCH2O, 21+) and Australian guidance (ABAC; Liquor Loot, Whisky Loot) often turn up in search. They don't apply to UK ads.
Pre-launch checklist: 1. Target 18+. 2. Everyone drinking or central clearly 25+; age-verify creators. 3. No "best night" or confidence payoff. 4. Clear offer terms, not volume-led. 5. Factual ABV; prominent ABV on 0%. 6. Review organic and UGC reposts too.
| Brand | What it sells |

| Beer52 | Craft beer box |
| Pour & Sip | Monthly whisky drams |
| The Dram Team | Tasting club with tasting cards |

Quick answers
What Meta formats do UK drinks clubs use in 2026? Gift-box unboxing Reels, tasting-kit statics, gifting and advent creative, distillery stories, first-box offers and cocktail how-tos.
What's the minimum age for alcohol ads on Facebook and Instagram in the UK? 18. Meta's default minimum of 18 applies where a country isn't listed, and the UK isn't. CAP 18.15 adds: no medium where more than 25% of the audience is under 18.
Can people in UK alcohol ads be under 25? Not if they're drinking or playing a significant role (CAP 18.16). Under-25s can appear, for example at a family celebration, but must obviously not be drinking. The ASA's snapshot found "a small number of brands partnered with influencers who were under 25." Cast 25+.
What did the ASA rule against Jägermeister for? Implying alcohol was key to a social event's success ("best night"), breaching 18.1 and 18.3.
Unboxing / distillery / gifting versus tasting kit / how-to / offer
Lean unboxing, distillery story, seasonal gifting
Cold: the reveal, provenance and the occasion open the funnel.
Lean tasting kit, cocktail how-to, first-box offer
Consideration and retention: discovery, a measured serve and clear terms convert.
Brief a portfolio by funnel, never "UGC wins."
Format systems beat fake drinks winners
